CASE STUDY

First odorless DCPD in the world

PDCPD (Polydicyclopentadiene) is well known in the body panel industry for its excellent properties combining toughness, stiffness, thermal and chemical resistance. Typical applications of the material are on bumpers, fenders, hoods for construction, agricultural equipment, industrial machinery such as trucks and buses. Due to the strong odor of the material, it has traditionally not been eligible to be used inside vehicles.

Our facility in Rennes, France hosts a wealth of knowledge and expertise within polymers, specifically in PDCPD Thermoset resin NexTene™. During a close collaboration with a tier 2 supplier in the automotive industry, we developed a specific formulation and optimized our processes to successfully create a PDCPD polymer having absolutely no scent as well as no residual COV after molding.

This success made NexTene™ the first PDCPD resin qualified by Daimler with a first application on the new AMG GT. The unique properties and odor-free advantage of NexTene™ now makes PDCPD qualified for use on interior vehicle parts and reinforces NexTene’ s position as the future of the PDCPD resins.
